Silchar is located in the state of Assam in India. This place is the head quarters of Cachar district and lies on the banks of the river Barak. The population of this district mainly comprises of Bengalese and hence Durga Puja is the most important religious festival of Silchar and its neighboring districts. Durga Puja Silchar turns into festive atmosphere when Durga Puja arrives. Silchar celebrates Durga Puja with all its rituals. The festival starts with Mahalaya or the invitation for the goddess Durga and her five children to come down to earth. It occurs seven days before the Durga Puja. Goddess is invited by singing devotional songs and by chanting mantras from Chandi Kavya.

The idol of goddess Durga will be readied from the maha shashti day by performing Chakshu Daan. Unveiling the face of the Durga idol is the main ritual of this day. Other major rituals include Bodhon or giving life to the idol, Amontron and Adibas. On the early morning of the sapthami day the Nabapatrika or the Banaba bride is given bath as part of worshiping nine types of plants. The main pujas will start after this bath. The goddess will be offered flowers and food each day to please the goddess and to get blessings from her.
Thousands of devotees visit the place where the idol is kept and offer Anjali in the morning. In the evening, it is time for the Sandhi puja which marks the joining of Ashtami and Navami days. Bhog or the food is supplied to the devotees visiting the place on the ninth day. The bhog includes meat. On the last day of the puja, the dasami day a farewell is given to the godess after performing the pujas in the morning. The idol is immersed in a nearby river. The people visit the durga idol during the durga puja in silchar and get the blessings. It is carnival time in Silchar Durga Puja festival and everybody enjoys the festival irrespective of their religion.

Sachin in New Look

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha. He took the oath in the chamber of the Rajya sabha chairman Hamid Ansari. He became the first active sportsperson of the country to be nominated as the Rajya Sabha member.

In a surprising move, Govrnment had recommended Sachin’s name along with Bollywood actress Rekha and businesswoman Anu Aga as the nominated member of the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that his senior team-mate Sachin Tendulkar will make a contribution as a Rajya Sabha member also. “this (Rajya Sabha)  is a new avenue for him and I aam sure he will do well and contribute there also,” Dhoni had told.

World chess champion Viswanathan Anand also said that Sachin Tendulkar serving as Rajya sabha member would be a big step in his life and wished the cricket legend  to enjoy his new role. “I hope he (Tendulkar) enjoys his role and he is able to do it very well. It’ s a big step for him and I think he will enjoy it,” Anand said. Now it’s the time for cricket legend Sachin to make an impact on the political world.

Problem of Silcharites during Rainy Season

In this ironic age, the Silcharites have no end of sorrows and sufferings. Another major factors arises is the Water Drainage System since the last decade. During rainy season , people of Silchar suffered a lot for many years.

The rainy season means, again the problem of flood and water blockage for the people living here. Again, then the problem arises of water born diseases, transportation and price hike of all the commodities. The major affected areas are Sonai Road, Shillonpatty, Malugram, Ganiwala etc. This areas are flooded by a little drop of water.

Every year, a huge money is sanctioned by the government in the name of Drainage Package. But, no work is done. The Municipality Board took no initiative to reconstruct the roads and the drains. Sometimes, it is assured by the Municipality that the work will be completed within a couple of months. But, no work is till done till now. Sometimes, the culverts  are half constructed, and as a result, the people faces problem to travel.

Now, its no more time to remain silent. The time for Silcharites to raise their voice against this unusual act has come. It is the time to take an action against this mini flood problem.

Noise Pollution in the name of Religious Ceremonies

Silchar town has been an attraction for religious ceremonies like ‘Kirtans’, ‘Bhajans’ and other social functions. Almost in every ceremony devotes use microphones which creates a loud noise and disturbs the neighborhood including students and patients. More people are complaining about the noise coming from these types of programs. These sounds or noises are disturbing, disrupting, ongoing activities and peaceful interludes.

This indiscriminate use of microphones by individuals and organizations across the town without seeking due  permission under definite provision of law creates criticism from citizens who are being disturbed. The district magistrate of Cachar Harendra Kumar Dev Mohanta has imposed certain restrictions in the relevant Act of 1960 and noise pollution rule of 2000.

The prohibitory order makes it mandatory for individual or organization to have prior permission from the district magistrate before making use of microphone or loud speaker. It has been further pointed out that even if valid permission is taken, loud speaker cannot be used after 10:00pm till the next morning of 6:00am.

It has been cautioned that if anybody or any organization violates these provisions, drastic action would be taken against them. All the officers in charge of police stations have been asked to ensure enforcement of the prohibitory order.

Kahaani: A great story

Actress Vidya Balan has created a niche for herself with her women-centric movies like ‘Paa’, ‘Ishqiya’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’. Her latest movie ‘Kahaani’, which is directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is adding more value to it. The film has strengthening the trend created by her. With this movie, Vidya has proved that like other Hindi superstars, she can also run a successful show at Box Office.

‘Kahaani’  is a complete female-centric movie and Vidya Balan has successfully made her new experiment in it. Her flawless performance is the major attraction of the film. Advaita Kala’s commanding script, Sujoy Ghosh’s neat direction, Vishal-Shekhar’s music, Setu’s beautiful camera work and Namrata Rao’s brilliant editing are its other highlights.

With his brilliant directorial skills, Sujoy Ghosh has turned out to be a master storyteller in the movie ‘Kahaani’. He has wonderfully combined the story with some thriller elements. His brilliant narrative skills make sure to keep the viewers on the edge.

Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan) is seven months pregnant and her husband goes missing at this crucial juncture. She sets out alone from London and comes to Kolkata in search of her spouse. She has no clue and nothing to rely on in the festive city. With her sharp memories, she contacts several people to reach a dead, but everyone tries to convince her that her husband does not exist. What happens next should be watched on screen.

After ‘The Dirty Picture’, Vidya Balan has once again taken all the responsibilities to run the show on her own. As pregnant woman, she has delivered a very confidant act. Her body language is perfect in all her fury and grief. Others like Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Dhritiman Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee, Darshan Jariwala and Indraneil Sengupta have also delivered wonderful performances, which are par in excellence with Vidya.

Vishal-Shekhar's music is a major attraction in technical front. His music is completely in accordance with the story. The title track and Amitabh Bachchan's 'Ekla Cholo Re' are really mesmerising. With his arresting camera work, Setu has captured the essence of Kolkata on celluloid. Overall, Vidya Balan’s stellar performance and the wonderful screenplay make the film ‘Kahaani’ a wonderful movie-going experience.
